What is Lightroom?
Digital photography is only part photography, the rest is all digital which means time spent in front of a computer importing, sorting, selecting, tweaking, tagging, finishing, printing, sharing, uploading and showing your images. Lightroom is the premiere software program that handles all of those tasks with relative ease and quite a bit of elegance. It has changed the way professional photographers work and is increasingly the choice of amateur shooters as well.

Lightroom has a direct competitor, Aperture, which only runs on a Mac. Both programs achieve the same results but, of course, have different layouts and methods for getting there. These classes only deal with Lightroom, which runs on both Windows and Mac. There are other choices like DXO, ACDSee, Bibble and others that are similar to Lightroom. Even iPhoto and Picasa are great tools, but Lightroom has become by far the most popular tool.

What you’ll learn:
In the series of three classes you will learn how to set up Lightroom, import images and use the wealth of editing tools to improve your photos. You’ll understand how to use Lightroom’s ability to instantly find any photo in your collection based on keywords. You’ll also learn how to print, create web galleries and slide shows and share images online from within Lightroom. Please see the detailed class outlines below.

Each class includes an illustrated handout so you can follow along with the presentation. Also new in these revised classes are demo image files available for later download so you can try the processing techniques shown in the class on your own. You can sign up for any of the classes you like, but it’s highly recommended that you take all three to appreciate and understand what this software is capable of.

What you’ll need:
You don’t need to bring your laptop to the class. You can learn by watching the live demo, following in the handout and taking notes. If you do bring your laptop, make sure you have the latest version of Lightroom loaded. You should already be well acquainted with your computer hardware and settings and know your way around your operating system. If you don’t already own Lightroom you can download a free 30 day trial here.
